Neil first became fascinated by aeroplanes at the age of 5 when his Dad, who was serving in the Royal Air Force, took him to look at a Gloucester Javelin. That ignited the passion and Neil’s singular aim growing up was to learn to fly.
At the age of 18 a Private Pilots Licence was gained and at age 20, he followed in his father’s footsteps joining the RAF. First posting was on C130 Hercules followed by 4 years flying the BAe 146 on The Queens Flight. This involved many worldwide flights carrying members of the royal family on foreign state visits.
After completing 8 years of military service, he switched to commercial flying, starting on the B747 with British Airways. He then flew as a Captain on B757/B767/A320 and is currently a check/training Captain on the B777.
2016 saw the renewal of the Single Engine Piston rating, followed very closely by the purchase of a share in an SR20 G2 Avidyne and subsequently another share in an SR22 G3 Perspective. Loves flying in Europe and recently flew an SR22 from Athens to London including a VFR low level transit through the Alps. He also flies as a Class Rating Instructor at his local flying club. Has now amassed 21,000 hours of which 350 are Cirrus hours gained in last 4 years.
Neil has a particular interest in Aviation Human Factors and is involved in cross training these skills to the medical profession. Lives near Oxford and has 2 grown up children.
