Many of you have heard of a CDM course, some might even know what the acronym means: Critical Decision Making... but what do we really do there?
Well, you've got a chance to find out in person. The Flight Academy and Lone Mountain Aviation/Lone Mountain Aircraft Sales will be hosting an open house on Saturday, August 8th, along with a CDM course in the afternoon.
During the open house, we'll be doing a few short presentations and giving demo sessions in our Full Motion Cirrus Simulator. We will also have some very high time Cirrus instructors around (including Luke and I), so if you've got some questions about this or that, you can corner one of us and ask.
During the CDM, we will be discussing some interesting statistics about Cirrus accidents. We'll look at the phases of flight which are most dangerous (some of this might surprise you!) and how we can mitigate the risks involved. We'll also take a close look at an accident scenario where the pilot makes a lot of good decisions from a safety-minded perspective... but still finds himself in a pretty tough spot.
Any pilot can attend the CDM course - we talk a bit about Cirrus pilots in particular but these skills and stats cover the entirety of General Aviation. We also encourage non-pilot flying partners to come as they really do have a lot to offer the pilot of their aircraft. You'll also learn about how having a non-pilot help you through the decision making process can help decrease risk. Finally, for the pilots and non-pilots alike, come see what pulling the chute actually feels like in our sim - it's one of the only times and places you can really practice something like that!
The best part? All of this is completely FREE! Talk to experienced Cirrus instructors, get a taste of what a simulator training session feels like, and attend a seminar about Critical Decision Making... at no cost.
Please register for the CDM course here so we know how many materials to bring: http://www.regonline.com/builder/site/default.aspx?EventID=756032
The open house runs from 10 am until 2 pm with the CDM course starting at 2:30 and going until about 5:30. We often find that discussions continue after the course is over among attendees and instructors with some great insights and excellent "there I was" stories being told.
If you have questions about any of this, give me an email, make a comment in this post, or call us at (866) 557-1501 (toll free) or (206) 219-3720.
Safe flying! I'm looking forward to seeing you there.
