CPPP - SWF

What a great weekend!  Thanks to all who made it out for COPA's CPPP in Stewart NY.  The weather was a little sketchy on Friday night keeping a few at bay who knew the better part of valor, but ultimately I think we only had one person unable to attend.

For those who don't know, the CPPP (Cirrus Pilot Proficiency Program) has been taught at an airport near you.  These events combine extensive ground schooling with flight training to brush up the skills which grow rusty over the months.

We do VFR and IFR flight training, normal procedures and emergencies - you name it.  In fact that's part of what makes these courses special: We're able to do flight training in accordance to what each pilot wants, not a pre set syllabus that finds everybody doing the same thing. Granted, if you want to finish the Wings phase which this training qualifies for then you have some requirements to meet but the 2 flight sessions makes that and more easy to attain.

I took a few photos to give a brief glimpse of a few of the things that go on during these events:

Bill Frank teaches his Advanced Aviation Weather Tactics.  Bill's knowledge of aviation weather, products, and tactics to be utilized when you find yourself in a tough spot are among the best in aviation instruction.  Since Bill is a CSI and Cirrus owner, his insight into our technological advantage couples well with advice on how to use that technology.

A few of the CFIs teaching at the weekend event gathered after our customary CFI meeting to discuss plans for their clients.  These are some of the most experienced Cirrus instructors in the world:

Steve and Joe prepare for the second of their two flight sessions.  Each attendee gets 3 hours with a flight instructor on Saturday and again on Sunday.  During this time, we work on just about anything you can think of and usually a few you wouldn't think of.

There's always a big dinner on Saturday night.  Pilots and instructors gather to talk about what they have learned, their experiences over the years (or months) of flying, and usually the latest iPhone app:

Thanks to all the volunteers and COPAns who made this CPPP possible.  Come see us at the next one!

Sept 11 - 13 Baden Baden, Germany

Sept 25 - 27 Concord, CA

Oct 23 - 25  Shreveport, LA

Nov 6 - 8  Santa Maria, CA

Next year's dates and locations will be announced as soon as we have the data for this year's events.  You probably won't have to fly far to attend one.

Safe flying,

And don't forget Baden Baden, Germany September 11-13.  It is worth the trip!

How about offering a CPPP weekend in Canada. If it is held at the Brantford airport in Ontario, it is close to the border for those in the USA who may also wish to attend.

Hi Jocelyn.  I'll pass this thought on to Rick and Curt who ultimately hold the power in deciding where to hold these events.

I do believe that it's required that we have at least 20 people in attendance to make things pencil out.  Any idea how many pilots in the local area would be up for something like this?
